Due to widespread opposition, it was reorganized again as the Federation of Malaya in 1948 and later gained independence on 31 August 1957. Singapore, Sarawak, British North Borneo, and the Federation of Malaya merged to form Malaysia on 16 September 1963. During the late 20th century, Malaysia experienced an economic boom and underwent rapid development. Brad Pitt’s mother is desperately trying to help save her son’s relationship with Angelina Jolie.

Family counsellor Jane Pitt – who is famously close to her son’s ex-wife Jennifer Aniston – is keen for the couple to repair their five-year union for the sake of their six children – three adopted children, Maddox, 8, Pax, 6, and Zahara, 5, and three biological children, Shiloh, 3, and 18-month-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

A source told the Daily Mail website: “Brad is trying to cling on to the wreckage of the relationship as he is still very much in love with Angelina and believes they can make it work.

“Jane wants what is best for her son and grandchildren and Angie has agreed to meet her. She has stuck at her own marriage and worked with families for 30 years trying to keep them together.”

Jane Pitt believes her skills as a mediator will come in useful when speaking to Jolie to whom she has become close in recent months thanks to their joint work in setting up a cancer centre.

It was recently reported that Brad Pitt and Jolie were heading for a separation after signing a legal document that split their $US330 million ($365 million) fortune and custody of their children equally.

However, sources close to the couple denied this and insisted “everything was fine” between them.

Friends also said the couple were planning to attend the Oscars together in March and had already started planning their outfits.

One friend said: “Angelina and Brad are still very much together. They’re even in the process of planning out their Oscar outfits. Brad wanted to make sure he didn’t clash with Angelina, who’s putting some serious thought into her choices. They are still a couple.”

Pitt and Jolie – who has been married twice before – got together after meeting on the set of the film Mr and Mrs Smith in 2004, while he was still married to Aniston.

TVB is the first free-to-air (FTA) television broadcaster in Hong Kong. Tom and Jerry

Beginning in 1960, in addition to the originals MGM had new shorts produced by Rembrandt Films, led by Gene Deitch in Eastern Europe. Production of Tom and Jerry shorts returned to Hollywood under Chuck Jones‘s Sib-Tower 12 Productions in 1963; this series lasted until 1967, making it a total of 161 shorts. The cat and mouse stars later resurfaced in television cartoons produced by Hanna-Barbera and Filmation Studios during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, a feature film, Tom and Jerry: The Movie, in 1992 and released domestically in 1993 and in 2000, their first made-for TV short, Tom and Jerry: The Mansion Cat for Cartoon Network. The most recent Tom and Jerry theatrical short, The Karate Guard, was written and co-directed by co-creator Joe Barbera and debuted in Los Angeles cinemas on September 27, 2005.

Today, Time Warner (via its Turner Entertainment division) owns the rights to Tom and Jerry (with Warner Bros. handling distribution). Since the merger, Turner has produced the series, Tom and Jerry Tales for The CW’s Saturday morning “The CW4Kids” lineup, as well as the recent Tom and Jerry short, The Karate Guard, in 2005 and a string of Tom and Jerry direct-to-video films – all in collaboration with Warner Bros. Animation.

Hello Kitty

The character is portrayed as a female white cat with a red bow and no drawn mouth. She lives in London, England with her parents and twin sister.

The Hello Kitty line has since developed licensing arrangements worth more than $1 billion a year in sales. Examples of products depicting the character include dolls, stickers, greeting cards, clothes, accessories, school supplies, dishes and home appliances.Hello Kitty has an official theme park, Sanrio Puroland, which opened in 1990.

The Japanese anime series Hello Kitty and Friends aired on TV Tokyo in Japan, and CBS in the United States in 1991. It also ran in reruns on Toon Disney. On the show, Kitty is a little girl living with her mother, father, and twin sister Mimmy, who is identical to Kitty but has different colored clothes and wears her bow under the opposite ear. 13 episodes were produced, using animation produced as early as 1991.

On Japanese television, Hello Kitty (and her pals) have starred in an anime series. Hello Kitty’s Paradise ran for 16 episodes between 1993 and 1994. This version was released in English in 2000, and like “Hello Kitty and Friends”. Hello Kitty appeared in a new Japanese clay-animated series called Hello Kitty’s Stump Village in 2005.  At Anime Expo 2006, Geneon Universal Entertainment announced that Hello Kitty’s Stump Village was one of the series it licensed for U.S. release. Volume 1 was released in October, and Volume 2 was released in January and in 2008. After Geneon withdrew from the US market at the end of 2007, it was later re-licensed by Funimation Entertainment, who will continue to release it in North America. Hello Kitty appeared for the first time in a full 3D animation The Adventures of Hello Kitty & Friends developed by Sanrio’s digital entertainment entity Sanrio Digital.

By 1996, Hello Kitty had already grossed over 20 million dollars throughout Japan. As time progressed, many more Japanese artists exploited this arsenal of business by creating a second second type of Hello Kitty featured in Clay. This version was released in English in 2000, and like many episodes in “Hello Kitty and Friends”. Hello Kitty and friends also appeared in Hello Kitty’s Animation Theatre, which had Hello Kitty buying other Sanrio characters appearing in their versions of different fairy tales. Over all, the Hello Kitty franchise has influenced many individuals to make similar productions.

At the Earth’s surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by shaking and sometimes displacing the ground. When a large earthquake epicenter is located offshore, the seabed sometimes suffers sufficient displacement to cause a tsunami. The shaking in earthquakes can also trigger landslides and occasionally volcanic activity.

In its most generic sense, the word earthquake is used to describe any seismic event — whether a natural phenomenon or an event caused by humans — that generates seismic waves. Earthquakes are caused mostly by rupture of geological faults, but also by volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, and nuclear experiments. An earthquake’s point of initial rupture is called its focus or hypocenter. The term epicenter refers to the point at ground level directly above the hypocenter.

The earthquake caused major damage to Port-au-Prince. Most major landmarks were significantly damaged or destroyed, including the Presidential Palace (President René Préval survived), the National Assembly building, the Port-au-Prince Cathedral, and the main jail. To compound the tragedy, most hospitals in the area were destroyed. The United Nations (UN) reported that the headquarters of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), located in the capital, had collapsed and that the Mission’s Chief, Hédi Annabi, and his deputy were confirmed dead. Elisabeth Byrs of the UN called it the worst disaster the United Nations has experienced because the organizational structures of the UN in Haiti and the Haitian government were destroyed.The UN has warned that lawlessness may result, since up to three million survivors are yet to receive international aid.

There was major damage to Port-au-Prince. The buildings of the finance ministry, the ministry of public works, the ministry of communication and culture, the Palace of Justice, the Superior Normal School, the National School of Administration, the Institut Aimé Césaire, Parliament, and Port-au-Prince Cathedral were damaged to varying degrees.^[41][42][43] The National Palace was severely damaged.^[44][45] The quake seriously damaged the control tower at Toussaint L’Ouverture International Airport.^[46]

There was significant damage to communications, and a Haitian diplomat has said that “communication is absolutely impossible … I’ve been trying to call my ministry and I cannot get through.” A hospital in Pétionville, a wealthy suburb of Port-au-Prince, collapsed from the earthquake.The main prison in Port-au-Prince collapsed during the earthquake. Many prisoners escaped into the streets, and their whereabouts are unknown. The roof of the facility reportedly collapsed and caught fire, and family members have been unable to find their incarcerated relatives. In addition to the anticipated adverse effects on survivors’ physical health due to infection and insufficiently treated injuries, mental health effects such as traumatic loss and bereavement, psychological trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder are expected among the people.

The headquarters of MINUSTAH at Christopher Hotel was destroyed, as were offices of the World Bank. The quake affected the three Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) medical facilities around Port-Au-Prince, causing one to collapse completely. The building housing the offices of Citibank in Port-au-Prince was destroyed, and several employees remained missing.Up to 200 guests at the collapsed Hôtel Montana in Port-au-Prince remain unaccounted for, and are presumed dead.

As of 15 January 2010 (2010 -01-15 )  , reported damage to the Port-au-Prince seaport includes the collapse of cranes and containers into the water, structural damage to the pier, and an oil spill, rendering the facility unusable for immediate rescue operations; the Gonaives seaport, in the northern part of the country, remains operational.The apparel industry, which accounts for two-thirds of Haiti’s annual $350 million in exports to the United States, reported structural damage at manufacturing facilities in Haiti. American-based Hanesbrands Inc. reported that three of its four factories had been affected by the quake, with one facility substantially damaged. The Canadian clothing company Gildan Activewear reported that one of the three textile factories that produce their products had been severely damaged.

Buildings shook in Santo Domingo, the capital of the neighboring Dominican Republic, but no major damage was reported there.
